Subject: Historic tribe
Just in case you're wondering if there's a lost tribe show worth copping, just scroll to that 303 improv and give this a sample - I'm pretty sure that'll get the party started...
This was a very interesting time for the group if you happened to be following them around this era. They were honing in on their sound (meaning less exploration) so as a dedication to their OG fans, they paid homage with a fully improvised first set featuring Richard Devine as part of that voyage.
Chris did the quad mics in the Tabby, which is a trip to listen in headphones, as you really do feel like you're hovering in the middle of the venue (which is a giant beautiful church). And while the second set was mostly the classics, the WMIOD and Hubble are making my arm hairs stand on end thinking about how awesome it was actually being there for this night.
I'd like to actually talk about that WMIOD, since it's one of my favorite songs, and there were some cool things they were doing. Phipps had this distorted rhodes and that riff was legit af. It just felt like they were really trying to make this one shine, and I just appreciated the touches they did on this joint. Like how they bring it out of the d&b and hold it just long enough for you to appreciate it.
And that Hubble encore... so the PA went out the year prior on that song and they mention it in the track before Hubble. Anyway, you could tell they wanted to make sure and crush it so they just gave a very tight performance. That distortion on Murph's bass coming back into the verse is nasty. And that Phipps rave synth pad, whew. God I love this band.
Regarding the set as a whole: I consider these songs almost like apps, and this was the most updated Tribe was at this stage of 2003-2006 before they started experimenting with heavy synthesis and prog riffs in 2007-now. Overall, it's just refreshing to enjoy a crystalized idea they really tuned to perfection. I'm gonna leave it at that.
Oh and that improv set, there's a couple joints that are just super vibey, like track 5 intro, straight up sounds like lofi before lofi was a thing. Also Kabuki and Arigato > Blu Mood. Yep, 5 stars.

Definitely worthy of a 5 star nomination. Along with the Masquerade Music Park run in summer 05', this show is my personal favorite. an Impov first set, c'mon how often does that happen anymore. as for the second set, it includes rarities like WMIOD and the return of Kabuki paired with a nice Peoples. The Hubble encore floored the building.

This was probably the most meaningful night of the New Year's run this year for me. After blowing out the first night I think everyone was really anticipating how much more heat the guy's could bring the second night. The first set blew the roof off, Grow, Kabuki, WMIOD were the highlights for me in the second. Definatly start listening to this show now! You won't be disappointed. Thanks to Chris for getting this up!

The first set is indescribable...simply amazing...but the second set holds it down too, with the best Peoples I have heard and an absolutely sicktight Arigato > Blu Mood...amazing transition, the whole crowd knew it was coming and absolutely blew up when they finally put together that signature guitar riff.
I would recommend getting the soundboard off sts9music as well, if only for this show.
